Abstract


The wireless spectrum demand is at a constant rise in contrast to its scarcity. Cognitive Radio Networks(CRN’s) as a notion was first brought into the light to tackle this issue. A CRN is an intelligent network that dynamically changes its characteristics through the process of Spectrum Sensing and adapts to the convenience of the environment it is in. This article presents a basic overview of what CRN’s are. The major contributions of this paper lie in a comparative study of CRN’s and Spectrum Sensing in recent years as well as its main challenges and applications. This review shall help current and new researchers in the field to look for future outlooks and give them a basic run-through of CRN’s and Spectrum Sensing and their characteristics.

Preet Hitesh Talajiya, SVKM's NMIMS MPSTME

Preet Talajiya was born in Mumbai, India. He is pursuing a B.Tech degree in electronics and telecommunication engineering from the SVKM's NMIMS Mukesh Patel School of Technology, Management, and Engineering.

Aniket Pramod Gangurde, SVKM's NMIMS MPSTME

Aniket Gangurde is pursuing his Bachelor of Technology degree majors in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from SVKM’s NMIMS Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering. 

U Ragavendran, SVKM's NMIMS MPSTME

Dr. U Ragavendran has served various academic and administrative roles for the last 16 years. He has obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Master of Engineering (M.E) in VLSI Design and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Low Power VLSI Design from Anna University, Chennai and his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) in Professional from MS University, Tamil Nadu. His research alignment is broadly in the areas of Micro-Electronics and Cognitive Networks. He has guided 42 post graduate, 131 under graduate and one Ph.D. scholars in fulfillment of their degree and presently administers five Ph.D. research scholars. He has over 37 International journal publications in reputed indexed journals, presented more than 12 papers in International conferences, and three books and two book chapters. Beyond his scholarly academic works, he has been part of the various professional bodies & Journals serving responsible positions such as IEEE M 2007-19 & SM 2019 onwards.
